Grateful for The Dance of Autumn Leaves

Autumn LeavesThe Dance of Autumn Leaves

A Poem, By Joy Aletheia Stevens

~

I step into the woods,

Hear the rustling of the trees,

And ‘for I could look,

A glorious dance plays round my feet!

 ~

Creatures’ red and yellowish gold

Twirl across the earth,

A dance to enchant young and old,

A symphony is given birth.

~

I wonder at this enchanted flight,

The dance of the autumn leaves,

Then I raise my eyes, and to my delight,

I see the fiery glory of the trees!

 ~

The world seems afire in glorious light,

The stormy sky is gray.

It thunders with strength and might,

As the skeleton leaves are at play.

~

The air bites cold on my skin.

Droplets sprinkle my face

As storm, and sky, and gales of wind,

Give the leaves a chase.

 ~

The mighty trees bend as the wind pursues them.

Leaves break free to join the dance.

Lightning lights up the horizon,

Trees never breaking their stance.

~

And as I stand here looking ’round me

I see Gods glorious might.

Clouds now part, sun shines down on me,

I see why nature never seems to fight.

~

For some say death is like to autumn,

But what death is this glorious dance?

And though trial and storm seem on the horizon,

The sun will shine through at last!

~

Thank you! I’ve always liked this one. I wrote it years ago. Something about it always reminds me of the dancing memories scene in Anastasia.
