Wasted Yesterdays
A Poem By Joy Aletheia Stevens
~
Every day you miss the chance
The moment God gave you
But you say it was not the last
You’ll catch the next few
~
A word you should have spoken, unsaid
A hug that was never given
Your words hang heavy as if lead
Bound and tied within
~
You always think there will be a time
When you can right your wrongs
A day that you can mend the line
And together sing the songs
~
You say tomorrow I will give the effort
Later I’ll tell you my words
Another day I’ll finally try to court
The dreams I’m looking towards
~
But now tomorrow has slipped through your fingers
And today is all that you have
And your wasted yesterdays will torment you forever
And for you there will be no healing salve
~
This poem seems harsh, and difficult to swallow. How often we waste out chance to speak into peoples lives, to love people, and to heal bridges. We always think there will be time. The truth is there isn’t always. The truth is tomorrow is not promised. I hope the message here however does not depress, but encourage. Lets not waste our days.
