Rooftop
A Poem By Joy Aletheia Stevens
~
Silence, whispers
Peace in the noise of the world
Quiet, escape
So high above where my story unfolds
~
Up here the world has shrunken
Down to manageable proportions
So small my troubles seem to be
Stilled is the torrent inside of me
~
A bird fly’s, higher and higher
Reaching to touch the dome of the sky
The earth stretches, wider and wider
Till its immensity is clear to my eye
~
Lifted am I above the confusion
I see at a birds eye view
So distant, it seems, my life’s distortions
Paused in play, on queue
~
I’ve escaped my fears
They have gone from here
I’m left in peace above all
I’m carried on wings and won’t fall
~
God’s taken me here
Left in a peaceful refrain
Beyond a barrier, though sheer
And here I remain
~
On the roof
