Lord, Keep Me Grateful
A Poem, By Joy Aletheia Stevens
~
Lord, keep me grateful!
Keep my heart from being dissatisfied,
So that I can draw, so near, to Your side.
I know Your provision! You do not hide!
Lord, keep me grateful!
~
Lord, keep me humble!
I know myself, I know my pride.
So keep me submitted before Your arms out wide,
And I know the acceptance that I will find.
Lord, keep me humble!
~
Lord, You know my weakness!
That I try to stand up on my own
Instead of coming to Your throne.
Lord, I am only flesh and bone!
Lord, You know my weakness!
~
Lord, teach me to confess!
Your truth, in my heart, is sown.
Help me to listen to Your every tone,
And know Your grace, Yours alone!
Lord, teach me to confess!
~
Lord, teach me to see!
Help me to trust You and not my mind.
The truth is, without You, I am blind!
But You, My Lord, You are kind.
Lord teach me to see!
~
Lord, set me free!
Free from the figment of independence,
That turns and preaches its own credence.
Oh Lord, treat me with Your forbearance!
And Lord, set me free!
~
Lord, keep me grateful!
See each gift Your hands bestow,
As, my own will, I let go,
And so then, I may finally grow,
As Lord, You keep me grateful.
~
But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the Lord.'” Jonah 2:9
