In The Beginning
A Poem By Joy Aletheia Stevens
~
In the beginning
~
God gave me a rose
And it captivated me!
Not one flaw, in it, did I see.
~
God gave me a universe
And all I could do
Was sit in wonder, utterly subdued.
~
God gave me an ocean,
The fish and the seas,
And the laugher in a breeze.
~
God gave me a sun
To guide me by day,
So I could sit in the warmth of its rays.
~
God gave me a star!
A sky full ‘tis true.
And added to that, He gave me a moon!
~
Then God gave me the birds,
And gave me their song.
And now I sing all day long!
~
God gave me a puppy!
All other animals too.
And love them I truly do.
~
God gave me a life!
He gave me a song!
And I will surely sing this song.
~
And all of this sight
Was all perfection.
God was giving me heaven!
~
Now perfection was gone,
But still there was the song,
And God gave me something to right my wrong.
~
God gave me His love,
He gave me The Son,
And the battle was won!
~
God gave me a rose,
Its center the earth,
Its petals the stars, the whole universe!
~
God gave me a universe
And all I could do,
Was sit in wonder, utterly subdued.
~
God gave me a rose,
His love captivated me,
Not one flaw, in it, did I see,
~
In the beginning.
~
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. Psalm 8:3-5
