Hush My Voice
A Poem, By Joy Aletheia Stevens
~
Hush my voice, do not say that word,
Calm yourself, think with reason!
Laugh less, do not feel the chord
That connects you for this season.
~
You’ve never felt so calm,
Yet never felt so distressed,
You’ve never felt such healing balm,
Except when God has blessed.
~
You’ve never been so content,
Never been so at home,
Never so impatient,
And never so alone.
~
Hush my voice, do not say that word,
You aren’t ready for such speech.
Passion comes with the pain of a sword
Until true love is reached.
~
Don’t say it yet, it’s not that strong,
Though stronger than all before.
Don’t sing my heart, not that song,
But I can’t stop it, it sings evermore!
~
But hush my voice, don’t say love!
Say like, say care, say dear one.
But don’t say it voice, don’t say love!
Not till you know it’s a true one.

My husbands and my Anniversary is coming up on Saturday. We will have been married for six years! I’m feeling a little sentimental so I thought I’d share a poem I wrote fairly early on in our relationship. I wrote a lot of poetry at the time, some of which makes me blush a little, but I do like this one. I hope you enjoy!
