Do you know your secret place?
The secret place deep inside yourself?
Some people don’t even want to look in this place. They want to bury it. It holds pain and anger and things of which they would rather forget. There secret place does not hold peace.
So they fill themselves with distraction. Fill their world with noise. They drown out the secret place inside.
They can’t stand silence. They can’t stand stillness. They must never stop because they might be forced to face the secret place.
We all have this place, we all have this garden. This secret garden of our hearts.
It has a door, and for most this door is fast shut. We don’t let anyone touch our secret place, the garden of our souls, the garden of our selves.
But someone knocks.
And many of us flinch away from the sound of that knock. We can’t let anyone into this place. To cut through the vines and overgrowth to be able to open up this door would be to painful to contemplate.
Better to stay shut. Better to stay safe and dark and smothered.
But someone knocks.
And we run, and we stay busy, and we seek noise. We must drown the knocking sound.
We can’t be still and silent. We must run from ourselves.
But someone knocks.
Why do we fear it?
He knocks, not to invade and destroy, but to make whole and heal.
He knocks to offer His very life to heal our wounds, to take our pain.
And He forever knocks.
Will we let Him into our secret place?
Every secret place?
Let His light shine in every corner of our hearts?
Will we open up our very in-most selves?
Will we stop? Allow Him access to places inside we fear to look at? Let Him bring His touch even there?
Will we answer His knock?
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. Revelation 3:19

Beautiful! It can be scary to open up that part of us, but it is so, so worth it! And its not like we could hide anyway…
Joy says
Thank you. And you’re right, it is scary. And it is worth it.
