A Child’s Eyes
A Poem, By Joy Aletheia Stevens
~
Lord, let me have a child’s eyes,
Full of wonder, and strangely wise.
Let me see the world anew,
Not scarred, not torn, but simple and true.
~
Renew my trust in humankind,
Not because of any proof that I might find,
But because of faith in Your Word,
Let me listen, with faith, assured.
~
See with grace, and see with innocence,
Look with a heart unscarred and curious,
Seeking, simply, to understand,
Desiring to reach out, lend a hand.
~
Bring back the eyes that used to wonder
At beauty and mystery and the love of mother.
Bring back eyes that could amazingly see
Past the thin veil of creation, into eternity.
~
Somewhere along this road we lose trust
Become self sufficient, we were told we must.
And instead of running to Father as strength,
We cynically became self absorbed, at length.
~
So Lord, open my eyes to all those in need,
The man on the street, and myself on my knees.
Teach me to love again and set my heart free.
Make me a child again, my wonder in Thee.
~
Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Mark 10:15
