Took Me Home
A Poem, By Joy Aletheia Stevens
~
How could I be so very blessed
I don’t understand, this I confess
That You would take me as Your very own
Like a foundling child without a home
~
You found me in an abandoned place
And Your hand caressed my tear soaked face
You held me close, told me I’d not be alone
And I knew more love than I had ever known
~
And even as at times I turned away
And as my heart continually strayed
You never stopped Your faithful guard
Over my life, even as it I marred.
~
And when I fell down into the pit
Driven by my very self down into it
You still reached out Your hands of grace
You still caressed my tear soaked face
~
And when I was finally ready to let go
Of my pride, my will, and all I owe
You still called me your very own
You washed me clean, and took me home.
~
Yet I will remember the covenant I made with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you. Ezekiel 16:60
Literally just written, inspired by Ezekiel 16 and by Francine Rivers brilliant book Bridge To Haven which I just stayed up most of the night reading.
